String Spider Web in Oelwein!

Check out these shirts!  HA!

There are close to 90 Bad@ss Quilters storming the streets of downtown Olewein this week and I’m happy to be amongst them!

With a small town like this, having 27 retreaters at Lou Ann’s Quilt Garden and Retreat Center, and another 60 at the community center, sleeping in near by hotels, B&B’s, camping at campgrounds in the area, hitting up all of the shops and restaurants and everywhere in between – we are an economic force to be reckoned with!

And if you add all of the folks from surrounding areas who came for last night’s double feature presentation with Julie Latvin of Me & My Stitches, and me sharing our quilts and stories, as well as a vendor’s mall for fabulous goodies - meant that there was a LOT of Quilt Traffic happening in North East Iowa.  Many folks came from as far as two hours away, shop hopping and dining their way here.

Yes, we are kind, giving, supportive, hard working and fun, but we are also, communitively….BAD@SS!

And not so bad in the piecing department either!

Heather and Charnette – love seeing you girls again!

Check out this mountain of strings! LOL!

It kept growing until it threatened to bury the machines!

Adding strings on either side of center kite!

The free pattern for String Spider Web, as well as the tutorial for drafting your OWN kite shape so you can make this block any size you want is found under the free patterns tab at the top of the blog.  Have you made one?

Oooh!!  This is going to be great!

This is dynamic!

Halloween!!  How fun!

Stitching up a storm of strings!

We were serenaded by Lou Ann’s hubby Jeff.  Music for the quilting soul.

Our fun yesterday also included a local delicacy – BBQ from a local food truck!

That Sassy Sow was absolutely delicious -- and I felt rather sow-ish after consuming it as well!  However, this was just a short 4 hour workshop day, I got in a long walk before setting up for the evening’s lecture activities, and it was not only my lunch, but my dinner as well.  And today I’ll definitely burn it off while I switch venues and teach Moth in the Window to the 60 retreaters at the Community Center “retreat annex!”

I’ll miss the Quilt Garden Girls --

I think I’ll have to peek in on them at least once a day over the next couple of days as they continue to retreat at Lou Ann’s.  Besides, they have a great treat table! LOL! (It’s two blocks from the community center – I need the walk, right?)

You’ll find the rest of yesterday’s Spider Web fun in the slide show below:

On the home front:  Mark is back home, the second shunt placement was successful.  And his oncologists are mapping out a plan of action as far as radiation/chemo goes.  We’ve got a long road ahead, but we’ll walk it together.  I’m making plans to go out to Arizona in November for a family visit. I am so grateful for the prayers, the positive well wishes and goodness coming from all over for my beloved brother.  Thank you so much.

  4. Surely you must have meant that a large group of quilters are a bad@$$ economic force. And what a great community event for folks who may not live near a great many other quilters.

Glad to hear things are progressing well so far for your brother.
